WRVU DJs

WRVU dj's '09
This page is always under construction, and includes various information about my favorite dj's of WRVU that I have collected online, and in person. Click the show names to view complete playlists archives for each dj. Many of these shows are archived as well, and can be streamed during the week after the show occurred. Look for them here. The people listed here are some of the best dj's a lover of fine music can hope for. Allow me to introduce you to:

"What does being a dj at WRVU mean to you?":
"I called my show "between pop & pretense" to not only advertise what a listener can expect on the show, but also to define some boundaries for myself--to not pack the airwaves with one difficult-to-digest recording after another, but to provide a healthy mix of introductions to new music and opportunities to sing-along with old favorites. I love turning people onto new, exciting music."

"What does being a dj at WRVU mean to you?":
"i've been at the station for almost 4 years with Pocket Ninjas! I started listening to WRVU in the 90's because they gave me a real alternative to commercial radio. Slint was the band that sealed the deal for me though. It really made me love WRVU the most. I knew I could always find things on WRVU that I couldn't find anywhere else. I got into Japanese Rock and didn't hear it being played on other stations. I also found out that anyone can be a DJ at WRVU because it is a community station. So I said why not? I wanted to share all my favorite things that weren't getting airplay like WRVU had done for me. I chose the name Pocket Ninjas! because I love ninjas and think it would be awesome to have pocket sized ones. Also, I am wee. I also knew that the name itself would let listeners know that they were going to get something different. A lot of people associate Ninjas with things that are Japanese so I was sort of hoping that the J-rock fans would be able to find me that way"

"What does being a dj at WRVU mean to you?":
SHARING! It really does. I discover music through the station, others discover music through my show. It's an awesome cycle. My favorite part of any given show is when someone calls in and says, "Who is that?!"
"I call my show 'The Banshee Beat' because I LOVE LOVE LOVE Animal Collective. All capital letters--all the time. Times 3. "Banshee Beat" is a great song. Give it a listen."
