Review: Historical performances in Nashville by Mikky Ekko and Heypenny, 10-10-09

Nashville is sitting at the cusp of a musical explosion. A generation of brilliant local musicians emerges, and as always, an influx of extremely good non-locals regularly adopt Nashville as their home, enriching us with diversity.

I have two such bands to tell you about who, though not born here, have chosen Nashville as their homes, and by doing so, have made us guests of honor to a movement of music that will re-create the musical culture of Nashville, by amending its backdrop. Read more »

Recap/update. Awesome Nashville bands galore!!!

Man, I hope some of you out there in Teradyme reader land are able to get to some of these shows . Nashville is so good it's kind of ridiculous.

2 Nights ago we had Ten out of Tenn at The Cannery Ballroom, and some really good band was upstairs at the Lounge. Tonight we have Heypenny at the Lounge. I'm going to that show.

At the Rutledge we have Pico vs Island Trees tonight. I won't be able to make that show, unfortunately.

Last night, Elle macho was at Mercy Lounge. I didn't know about that show. (#$%$%$) Read more »

Review: Butterfly Boucher "Scary Fragile" release party with Mikky Ekko, 9-15

Oh wow! What a show. It wasn't long ago I told my wife how nice it would be to have Heypenny, Butterfly Boucher, and Mikky Ekko at the same show. 2/3 ain't bad. It turned out to be one of the best concerts I have ever attended, and lived up, very well, to the expectations Nashville music has been instilling in me this past year... Read more »

Review: Mikky Ekko @ Yazoo Brewery Aug 29, 2009

damn
Nashville music has undoubtedly always been good, but there is a new enigma that Nashville itself should be humbled by, and grateful for being a home to. That enigma is Mikky Ekko.

All bands present this night were good. I feel terrible for seeming favoritist, and perhaps I am. Perhaps I am not prepared to handle the elation of finding this kind of talent in such close proximity to myself. I don't know exactly, but I know that Nashville is home to Mikky Ekko, for as long as he will allow it to be, and to share a hometown with the man behind Mikky is a privilege, and a boon I am more proud of than I know how to convey.

And so, for the next few months, you might as well consider Teradyme an unofficial fan club for M.E., and as best as I can offer, a portal for details unavailable elsewhere. Read more »

ADVISORY!! Mikky Ekko @Yazoo Brewery, Nashville, Tn, Aug 29, 8:00pm

I'll be attending this show and reporting back on it soon after.

Mikky Ekko is the most exciting musical phenomenon that has ever occurred in my lifetime. How fortunate for me that I happen to know the man behind the magic, and for you, dear readers, that you may know him also, in this time of M.E.'s infancy, when the small clubs they play at still put us within arms reach of such majestic and humble talent.

Be wise. Don't miss a Mikky Ekko show. Bring your cameras, bring your friends, bring your family.

Take heed Nashville. You are giving birth to a legend, as we speak.

Review: Heypenny, Mikky Ekko & others @Mercy Lounge, 8-10-09, .."Copcar" EP release party

Tuesday, August 11, 2009- The Wake of Greatness
Just how to approach a review of the show I saw last night beguiles me. I went, with only the expectation of seeing the best band I know of, who claims Nashville as their home. I left with an indomitable impression of what real musicians can lead you to, when you stop, and pay attention to their advice.

That said, good fortune guides me, with respect to phenomenal rock shows. I have decided to let the best musicians I know choose what bands I should partake of next, as they have raised the bar, and my expectations, to such a degree that I am simply dumbstruck. Monday August 10th was penultimate, because I followed, in more ways than I was aware, the advice of Heypenny, who is now my hub for musical greatness in Nashville... Read more »

The best show in the universe- x's 2!

Monday, August 10, Heypenny will be at the Mercy Lounge for their EP release of "Copcar". There is no entrance fee, so come out and enjoy the best show you're likely to see until Heypenny's next show! Fortunately, that happens to be the following Friday, the 14th, at the Exit/In.

Look for your friendly neighborhood WRVUnibomber at both shows, and afterward, for reviews, pics, and video taken by myself, here on Teradyme! See you there!

Review: Caitlin Rose, The Saps, Heypenny@The Basement, 07/24/09

I am so proud to live in Nashville. The move I made here, from Indiana, is proving to be the best move I ever made in my life. I came here to be with the woman I love, and married, but I had no idea what was in store for me when I would later become a reviewer for the local music scene.

The show last night was so good, that this review may seem less like a review, and more like a philosophical analysis of life in Nashville, but I just don't know any other way to describe what was the best show I have personally ever attended... Read more »

Review: The Winter Sounds, Kindercastle, Pico vs Island Trees @Mercy Lounge, 07/17/09

It's rather uncommon for me to go to a rock show and have my expectations surpassed, but that's exactly what happened last night at Mercy Lounge in Nashville, Tennessee. The long wait for Pico vs Island Trees latest Nashville show was amply rewarded by milestone performances by all three bands. Summoning the words to describe just what I witnessed is like trying to recall the details of a dream. Pleasing me is a difficult thing to do, but these three Nashville bands made child's play of it.... Read more »
